Horror Poster Art

Image
I am thrilled to have stumbled onto Wrong Side of the Art today. They have an extensive collection of movie posters, including some ace vintage horror ones. Their cheesy taglines made my week! Watching horror movies is a favourite pastime, but I haven't seen nearly enough of them to tell you more about the films themselves. Below are four choice poster art samples, but for in-depth reviews, scoot on over to Maynard's - I'm sure he has seen them all.

This One's For You, Anna

The monsters in True Crime do not fascinate me. They are horrible people and do not deserve to be elevated in any way, shape, or form. We should focus on the victims and the people who love them. They deserve to have their stories told. They deserve to be remembered. At some point, knowing what happened to them should become a catalyst for change. To raise awareness, countless great documentaries have been made, and I salute everyone who helps shine a light on the truth. As for my opinion on what constitutes True Crime - I'm aware of the fact that it might be different from yours, but here are some of the true stories that have had a lasting impact on me are: When They See Us Unbelievable The Keepers Say Her Name Dear Zachary Making A Murderer Dirty John The Champions Blackfish Roll Red Roll If you're a lover of true crime like Anna & I, and you know of any other must-see documentary films, docuseries or based-on-true-story titles, leave a Comment bel...

Almost Time To Get Freaky!

Image
I have sore muscles this morning, but a smile on my face. We had a great time with our JC Le Roux buckets at PiP's Haunted Forest on Saturday. I was just a little disappointed that some of their stands along the Forest Walk was empty*. What did you get up to? Or do you have actual 'Trick or Treat'ing planned for tomorrow? Just remember: They come out at night. *The same thing happened at their Picnic Paradisio event earlier this year.

I don't even know where to begin. Eating your postman seems a bit extreme.

Of Heroes And Villains

Mentioning Halloween without mentioning Halloween  is just not possible. The film crowned Jamie Lee Curtis as The Scream Queen  and so far no one has knocked her off her pedestal yet. To me she is as synonymous to October as  that striped sweater or those masks . I get such a rush watching horror movies. Don't you?

Scream!

Scream is one of my favourite scary movies. All four of them really. The film series is also the reason for this week's gloomy tune, because I fell in love with it when I watched the first installment at Kimberley's drive-in theatre in 1997. It is still one of my favourite "scary" songs.

Realisation

Oh, the month of Halloween! Indecision's haunting me this year. Other than adding some ghoulish decor to our little Garden of the Dead (and wanting to dress up, of course), I'm not sure which event to pick this year. What are you guys all up to? Any cool ideas? Whatever we do, one of my favourite things to do is to stretch out the suspense for as long as I can, so to start off our 'Mexican Wave' of chills, here's a creepy little story wrapped up inside a weird music video.

Happy Halloween!!!

A perfect blend of swingy jazz and spooky noises.

WTF?

Image
Naturally, I'm delighted by this random creepy old photo I found through Google Search this morning. It's so weird - how can I not love it? What I do not understand, however, is what exactly transpired on that day. I tried image searching, and I found a few versions of it online, but was unable to link it back to any website / source to shed more substantiated light on the matter. Want to help me figure it out? Be my guest. Just please put me out of my misery and share your findings by leaving a Comment below. So far I've come up with the following possible explanations: Some type of clan pageant. A Halloween beauty parade/pageant/pool party. The girls were being judged on their physique alone and didn't want their faces to sway the judges' decision. Random silliness. These gals were just as much into spreading the weird stuff as I am.

Retrospace Halloween

Please forgive me for reblogging, but Retrospace's October 2013 post,  Retrospace Radio Halloween Rewind , is beyond brilliant - it provides links to fantastically spooky vintage podcasts, which you can download (file sizes not too bad) and enjoy at your own leisure. When I listen to them, I feel like I'm time-travelling. I also found the post quite suitable for this week's musical merriment in anticipation of Halloween on Saturday. Hope you love it as much as I do (and have a look at the rest of the podcasts on the Retrospace Blog. Just as awesome; I haven't downloaded them all yet, but I probably will).

They're Coming

This week's song comes from one of my favourite horror movies . Had me in stitches.

Little Pig, Little Pig, Let Me In!

I am so jealous of everyone who celebrates Halloween (especially everyone in the US)! Over here in SA it's not that big. Despite what you read about our crime statistics, most South Africans are very friendly, but because of our exposure to crime, there is no way people are going to let complete strangers into their yards. Especially not up to their front doors, so Trick-or-Treat'ing is practically impossible. Some of our stores (eg. Woolworths) started to sell Halloween themed candy a few years ago & I've heard of a few closed communities (security complexes) which allow Trick-or-Treat'ing for the little kids, but the general affinity for the Holiday has not yet grown to the point where it is as easy as it is in the States to get hold of costumes, or host big Halloween parties, etc.* I tried to get everyone at the office into the spirit of it last year, but we're less than twenty people there - and then it can be a challenge to spread the enthusiasm aroun...

Resident Office Ghost

Image
It's the month of Halloween ...isn't it exciting! I just really wish we celebrated the playful holiday with such gusto as the Americans do every year. Then this morning the strangest thing started happening at the office. We have door bells at each entrance for security purposes, so when the bell rings you can either walk up to the gate & unlock it, or you can use one of the remote devices some of us have in our possession during office hours. I am one of those entrusted with such a little device (basically it looks like any other motorised gate remote like those you might have at home). Due to the fact that I'm normally one of the first staff members in the office, I have to admit that I've gotten so used to the bell ringing every few seconds around 8 am (staff reporting for duty) that I sometimes press my remote button before I actually see who's at the door. [Lax in terms of safety, I know, so rest assured I'll be more careful next time....
