Run With Scissors

Image
Yes, I am one of those terribly annoying people who get a kick out of these silly almost-every-day celebrations, and tomorrow it's  Face Your Fears Day  (2nd Tuesday of October each year). Don't fight it. Shhhh...

Oh Boy!

Image
It's been 20 years.  I forget just how ridiculous those boy bands were. (And how much we were into them.) Poor Kurt Cobain would have risen from the dead only to die from embarrassment knowing his face graced my bedroom wall at the same time as a Backstreet Boys poster. The horror! A lot has changed for me since the 1990's. Pinks and feminine florals no longer repulse me, my taste in music is now much more inclusive, and I've even quit smoking. The bad taste in my past is something I'm quite comfortable admitting to now, but SMH. Why, oh why, was I ever into this  other  'N Sync guy?

Creepy Country

Image
Yesterday was International Country Music Day, so I think 'Possessed' is the perfect weird song for the week. It comes from one of my all time favourite horror comedies,  Dead & Breakfast . If you like this, you'll also enjoy Comin' to Kill Ya (from the same film).

Poor and Weird

Image
After all the repairs we've had to endure over the past month, it feels like my zeal for home renovations has sunk into my briefs. I, too, am now poor and weird.

Dance Days

Image
Hey, everyone! Ann wants to dance.

White & Nerdy

Image
So hubby's birthday is on Star Wars Day. Reaching the end of his thirties, it does mean that parties have fizzled out a bit (it takes us all a little longer to recover from late nights and hangovers). In other words, for the occasion this year, he decided on watching ALL the Star Wars episodes on a screen in the backyard. Yes. Nerdy. Very nerdy. Buuuut I was okay with it. It meant they wouldn't be tempted to drink & drive, and I'm always for  that. He worked hard getting comfy (old, scrappy) couches moved to the lawn, setting up the projector screen, etc. He's going to kill me for saying this, but it was just so cute seeing him be so creative. He had me totally invested in his birthday "party" idea. Then lightsabers became involved. Aaaaand I was out. No. No, no. No, no. Wish I was kidding.

Work Work Work

Image
It's Workers' Day in South Africa. Let's take a moment to remember why it is we all want to work.

HEY-Man

Image
We're celebrating Freedom Day in South Africa this week. On a serious note, that means we're commemorating our first democratic elections held in 1994. It also means that you can have as much fun as He-Man in this video as long as you don't impede on the Freedom of others.

Millennials

Mum isn't known for her sense of humour. We often have to explain our jokes to her. Having five children who love kidding around, that's a lot of 'splainin' to do, Lucy. She's adorable in her naivety. When she makes us laugh, it's usually by accident, but every now and again, she gets it right on purpose. Sunday morning she shared this musical parody. I'm just paying it forward.

Come Sail Away

I've been hearing this Styx song everywhere this past week, and then I remembered that Eric Cartman covered it...

Happy Holidays!

A lot of you are having holiday fun already, but for the rest of you, who still needs to work this week (like me), here's some festive cheer:

Weekly Quotable on Speaking Out

Image
Oh, sure! Of course it's admirable to fight the injustices of our world. " If you see something, say something ," right? Well, then... PC: Andy Doig Just make sure that you stick to the TRUTH.

Beaver Fever

Image
I finally got around to watching Zombeavers and it was surprisingly entertaining. Granted, the special effects were totally unrealistic (as you can probably deduce from the movie title), but the acting wasn't as bad as expected, and it had us giggling all the way through. It also provided us with this week's tune:

Darn Vampar!

Weekly Quotable: Party Time

If you've ever wondered why I sometimes skip over regular post schedules, this is the type of important partying business I'm attending to. Pic Source:  When Bookworms Party

SNL Musical Genius!

Image
This Monday feels like it could do with a bit of a giggle, so here are my two ABSOLUTE favourite weird musical skits (first saw them on SNL).

Weekly Quotable: Let Them Eat Cake!

Image
PC: @FromVersaillesWithLove ( Tumblr ) Just FYI: "Let them eat cake" is a phrase widely attributed to Marie-Antoinette, but according to History.com , she probably never even said it.
